I recently graduated from Advanced Leaders Course (ALC), that I attended at Fort Jackson, SC. The course was 6 weeks long, so that was my home for a bit.
If you are stationed at Jackson, attended any type of training or school there, then you know the DFAC isn’t all that great. It’s decent but I couldn’t do six weeks of DFAC food. After venturing outside of post, I discovered some hot spots with great food. I went to all of these places at a minimum of twice, sometimes back to back days. That’s how good the food was. Yes, I’m a foodie and I love to eat.
Tacos Nayarit
Address: 1531 Percival Road, Columbia SC
Taco’s Nayarit, is an authentic Mexican Restaurant established in 2016. Everything is made fresh right in front of you. My first visit, I ordered three street tacos because I always hear about them and never tried them. This was my opportunity. I also ordered the Birria Taco. The Birria Taco came with a special dipping sauce that’s free only if you order two or more. You can always opt to pay an additional for the sauce if you only order one. The Birria was my favorite between the two. It was so good that I went back the next day for lunch and ordered three Birria Tacos.
Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles
Address: 1260 Bower Parkway Suite A8, Columbia, SC
Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles opened it’s doors in 2012. They are knows as having the best chicken and waffles in town so I had to check them out. My first visit, I ordered the signature dis, four crispy fried chicken wings seasoned to perfection, a red velvet waffle and a side if scrambled eggs with cheese. I was not disappointed. Aside from chicken and waffles, they also serve a variety of other soul food dishes, from fried green beans and sweet cream corn nuggets to smothered pork chops and salmon patties.
