Today, we are diving into the world of digital reading with the Libby App. Over the years, technology has continued got expand and the amount of digital readers have grown tremendously. I shared in a previous post that curling up with a good book, movie or podcast has easily become one of my favorite self-care moments. This blog post will serve as a comprehensive guide, providing you with a step-by-step process to set up and make the most of the Libby App.
For those who may not know, the Libby App is a free application that brings your local library right to your fingertips. It lets you borrow and enjoy eBooks and audiobooks from your local library. Whether you’re stationed overseas or in the midst of a deployment, you can access the app as long as you have internet service. The setup process is straightforward and easy! Keep reading to find out how.
To begin your journey with the Libby App, your first action is to download the app from your device’s app store.
Step 1: Start by opening your device’s app store. If you’re using an Apple device, you’ll be using the App Store, whereas Android users will head over to Google Play. Then, search for ‘Libby, by OverDrive’ and hit the download button. The app will then be installed on your device.
Step 2: After successfully downloading Libby, it’s time to open the app. The application will guide you through the process of finding your library and signing in with a valid library card. You can locate your local library of choice by inputting the city and state. If you do not possess a local library card, don’t worry! As a service member, you will need to search “Department of Defense MWR Library”.
Step 3: Upon selecting the DOD Library, a new screen will appear prompting you to verify your identity. This is where you will sign in with your DOD ID. Once your identity is successfully verified, you will be redirected back to the main interface of the Libby app.
Step 4: Now comes the exciting part! You get to explore your library’s diverse collection and borrow a title that grabs your interest. From novels and non-fiction to graphic novels and audiobooks, the choices are endless.
Step 5: Any titles you borrow will appear under the Shelf > Loans section and will automatically download to the app when you’re connected to Wi-Fi. This feature ensures that you can indulge into your new book or audiobook even when you’re not connected to the internet.
When you’re ready to start reading or listening, just head over to your digital bookshelf and tap ‘Start Reading’ or ‘Start Listening’.
That’s it! You’re now ready to dive into the world of digital reading with Libby.
